A 27-year-old man and a 19-year-old man are expected to appear at Elgin Sheriff Court on Monday, September 28 in relation to domestic offences in the Buckie and Forres areas.

The day of action on Thursday, September 24, as part of Operation Alcor, saw teams of officers visit more than 25 addresses to carry out checks across Banff & Buchan, Formartine, Moray, Garioch, Marr and Kincardine areas.

Detective Inspector Neil Campbell said: "Police Scotland is committed to tackling all forms of domestic abuse within our communities.

"Domestic abuse covers a variety of behaviours and is not limited exclusively to physical abuse. Other forms of abuse include sexual abuse, emotional abuse and controlling behaviour by the perpetrator usually resulting in the victim suffering a loss of confidence suffering low self-esteem with a resulting feeling of isolation from family and friends.

"Most Domestic abuse occurs in isolation in the confines of the home and routinely is not independently witnessed. Suffering behind closed doors should not and cannot be ignored. We want to protect the victims and deal robustly with offenders.

"Children who live in houses where Domestic Abuse occurs can also suffer emotionally as a result of what they hear and witness and are also victims of the abuse.

"The message is clear that Police Scotland will tackle all kinds of Domestic Abuse and that it will not be tolerated in any form. We see domestic abuse as a priority and we will actively target perpetrators including those who are currently or have historically offended and will look to bring them to account for their crimes.

"We also want to raise awareness in our communities and I would actively encourage anyone who has been the victim of Domestic Abuse to find the strength to come forward and report any crimes. Domestic abuse must not be tolerated and help is available and there is no need to suffer in silence."

Police Scotland works alongside a number of partner agencies to address Domestic Abuse and these agencies can also be contacted and offer confidential guidance and support to anyone who has concerns regarding Domestic Abuse.

There are different ways to report Domestic Abuse either by telephoning 101 or there is an online domestic abuse reporting form which is found on the Police Scotland website.
