Covid to change face of Buckie Remembrance Sunday commemorations

REMEMBRANCE Sunday will have a very different feel to it this year as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to make its presence felt.
While the sacrifices of millions will, as always, be honoured on Sunday, November 8 it will be held on very much restricted basis minus many of the usual features such as the parade and salute.
Also absent will be the crowds who normally turn out to honour the fallen.
In a statement, the Buckie branch of the Royal British Legion said: "The Act of Remembrance this year will be held in conjunction with government guidelines regarding social distancing due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
"In line with Legion Scotland’s guidance for planning Remembrance Day events; there will be no Marching Parade held this year, although a restricted service will still be held at the memorial square, consisting of wreath laying and a ceremony, where a small contingency of veterans will be present and all required safety measures will be adhered to.
"During these unprecedented times, we have a moral and legal obligation to ensure no events are planned which contravene current government guidelines, therefore it is with regret that no large gatherings of the public can take place."
However, members of the public can still follow the service via live streaming on Buckie Legion’s Facebook page.
The Legion statement added that the plans for Remembrance Sunday were subject to change, at any time in order to comply with any new restrictions which may be put into place by the government in the lead-up to November 8. Updates will be posted on the Legion Facebook page as required.
