EVEN the global Covid-19 pandemic cannot keep love at bay as a resident at a Buckie care home found.

Margaret and Alex Cowie were married in the town 67 years ago and to mark their anniversary Alex paid a surprise visit to his wife, a resident at Parklands Care Home.

The visit was made possible due to a relaxation in national regulations on indoor visits to care homes. During the depths of the lockdown no visitors at all were permitted into care homes, this later being relaxed to window visits then outdoor ones.

In line with current guidance on indoor visits to care homes, Alex wore protective coverings and kept a safe distance from his wife.

To mark the occasion, staff at Parklands presented the couple with flowers and a cake.

Lisa Toogood, activities co-ordinator at Parklands, said: "We had a tip off from Margaret and Alex’s granddaughter that it was their anniversary, so we pulled out the stops to make sure they enjoyed their special day.

"It’s been a difficult few months for couples and families kept apart because of the pandemic, so these special moments are all the more important to celebrate."
