The national initiative is due to run from November 16-22.

Run by road safety charity Brake, the week aims to inspire action on road safety and the promotion of life-saving messages.

One of the key themes for this year's event is No Need for Speed.

Keen to get as many participating as possible is Buckie councillor Sonya Warren.

She said: "As well as schools, I would encourage others in the community to get involved, too.

"Businesses and clubs can all do their bit to promote safe driving and accident reduction, too.

"In a car crash 1mph can make the difference between life and death yet so many people continue to drive over the speed limit. Sometimes in towns the speed limit is not appropriate and drivers need to react accordingly.

"It's not just children we need to be aware of; some of the older members of our community are less agile and others are less able to perceive the speed of cars when they are crossing roads."
