When officers are made aware of a vehicle which has expired road tax, a sticker asking them to renew it as soon as possible will be placed in a plastic cover which will be stuck to one of the windows.

Buckie Community Officer PC Rachel Barclay said: "In instances where a vehicle with expired road tax is reported to us we routinely pass that on to DVLA to deal with as it's not a criminal offence.

"However, there aren't any visible signs of progress and those who report it can feel frustrated or that their information hasn't been acted on.

"We've come up with this sticker which alerts drivers to the fact their road tax has slipped and gives them the opportunity to rectify the situation without having to contact DVLA.

"It can be easy to forget to renew your road tax, especially now there isn't an actual tax disc which has to be displayed."

Buckie/Keith Inspector Graham Worton added: "It's important to get the community involved and engaged with us so we can respond accordingly when informed about various issues.

"We want the public to be aware of how they can report issues safely and securely or, when appropriate, anonymously and instil the confidence in them to do so."
