Buckie Christmas Kracker set to roar back with day of family fun

A FINE fun festive day out is on the cards for all the family as Buckie Christmas Kracker (BCK) gets set to make a welcome return.
A slightly pared back version of the town centre extravaganza, which typically draws crowds of thousands, is set to get under way on Saturday, November 20, culminating in the switch-on of the Buckie Christmas lights between 4.45pm and 5pm.
While some attractions have had to be put on hold this year due to Covid regulations, most of the Kracker has been given the green light to go ahead.
BCK chairman Councillor Gordon Cowie said: “We’ve had to take away the parade and fireworks this year to try and limit the number of people who are standing still at the one time.
“However, we’re delighted to welcome back just about everything else.
“In the square we’ll have the marquee for the Christmas market. There’s been an excellent response from community groups taking up stalls at the market, which is a great thing to see.
“There’ll be live music in the square featuring community and schools groups, which will run from 10.30am right through to 5pm. In the run up to the Christmas lights switch-on from around 4pm we’ll have party music on.
“For the kids Santa’s grotto will be in Cluny Square from 10am-12 noon then again from 1pm-4pm, and there’s also be Hercher’s funfair and inflatables in the square, too.
“We’re really looking forward to seeing everybody back and even though we’ve had to water it down a little bit this year, there’ll be something for everyone. I hope everyone who comes along has a good time.”
Along a section of East Church Street there will be various traders' stalls.
For those fancying an energetic Kracker the Santa Fun Run will be on hand.
Even canine Kracker visitors will be catered for in the fun dog show.
The food court is set to offer a variety of catering vans plus beer, gin, prosecco and a festive cocktail bar.
Councillor Cowie added that due to the nature of the Kracker there would be no track and trace and also that Covid passports would not be required to attend.
