A very special guest was welcomed to the company's new base at One Marchmont in the shape of Business Leader and Memorial Consultant Barry Robertson from the Crematorium and Memorial Group, which runs Moray Crematorium at Broadley, near Buckie.

Mr Robertson brought with him a cheque to the tune of £5000 for 1st Buckie Company.

It was a well-received and timely boost to the coffers, as Company Captain Alan McIntosh explained.

"We're absolutely delighted with this very generous donation from Dignity UK Moray Crematorium, especially as we have moved to new premises at One Marchmont," he said.

"The money will be used to support the boys.

"One of the main priorities we have at the moment is updating our gym equipment."

During his visit to the company's new home, Mr Robertson was left impressed with what he saw.

He commented; "At Dignity UK Moray Crematorium, we aim to contribute to local life, from education and support on end-of-life matters, to community initiatives and charity work.

"The donation is directly from Dignity UK, we as a team at Moray Crematorium want to connect with the community locally and all of the area.

"We are delighted to help fund the activities the Boys' Brigade provides and to ensure that young people in our community are able to learn, have fun and discover in a safe environment.”

"We as a team chose the BB, we wanted the money to go locally to a group that we all believed in and when I spoke to Alan he was overwhelmed by the donation and proudly told me about the group. He even invited me to the building they used and told me how the donation will be spent and about other donations they have received.

"The way it is run, enthusiastic volunteers, the activities they do and the organising for the future is incredible. I went to see their anniversary parade in Buckie last year and I thought it was fantastic."

Mr Robertson added that, going forward, the team at the crematorium were hoping to use other events and opportunities to connect with the local community.

The Crematorium and Memorial Group run a total of 46 crematoria across the UK.

1st Buckie Company began moving into their new home, which many years ago was the site of the bulb factory, in the second half of January, with the older boys being the first to settle in to their new home.

It brought to an end a peripatetic existence for Buckie BBs, who have previously been based at Buckie Community High School and, more latterly, the town's South and West Church. The new base offers the company the use of a large hall, kitchen, four classrooms and a tuck shop.

It is envisaged the second phase will bring with it rooms for crafts and other activities all under the one roof.
