Portgordon Fireworks Group (PFG) have installed a new bench at the west end of the harbour close to the stone seating put in place by Portgordon Community Harbour Group (PCHG) Ltd.

It is the second seating project the group have run over the last few months.

Last year saw the dedicated band of volunteers donate Treblo playground seats for the village primary school.

PFG chairman Kenny Gunn said that despite the group not being able to hold their annual firework extravaganza last October, they were delighted to be able to make a contribution to the village despite this.

He said: “Since we were unable to run our annual fireworks event last year due to Covid restrictions we thought we should keep our group community involvement as a priority.

“When we ordered the Treblo seats, we thought we should also order the dual-facing bench from the fireworks group stall holders who run our bottle stall and glow product stalls.

“This was a thank you to the local volunteer villagers and other helpers who assisted in the running of the Portgordon Coronavirus Support Group.

"They did errands and delivered food parcels and prescriptions during the pandemic.

“These volunteers did a sterling job especially during lockdown and before we got the local village shop reopened.

“The site for the bench was chosen in discussion with the PCHG.”

Mr Gunn went on to voice his thanks to John and Pauline Robertson for providing the materials and labour and also for positioning the dual way bench in the appropriate position.

Looking forward, the fireworks group are hoping to once again be setting the sky above Portgordon ablaze with colour and sound come the end of October.

The group have already paid their annual public liability insurance and have expressed their gratitude to Moray Council for granting an extension to the Public Entertainment Licence approved for last year’s display.

This was not used due to the cancellation of the event.

Mr Gunn added: “We still have to keep our hopes riding high that there will be future large gatherings allowed for community events such as ours and we hope to be back with a big bang or so in October this year.”
