CARE home residents in Buckie have been keeping fit during lockdown with a variety of activities, including the challenge of a six-hour bike-a-thon.

The residents at Parklands and Burnbank care homes have recently finished taking part in a week-long series of fitness activities.

This has taken in a range of activities, such as a socially distant gym workout with Blitz Fitness, a 10,000 step challenge and a bike ride that saw residents and staff cycle over 47 miles.

Proving age was no barrier to getting the blood pumping was 92-year-old Alistair Whyte, who celebrated his birthday on the saddle.

Lisa Toogood, activities co-ordinator at Parklands and Burnbank care home, said: “It’s important to stay healthy during lockdown and while we cant get out and about to enjoy our outdoor activities, we can still keep healthy and active indoors.

"The residents really enjoyed themselves and really pushed themselves. We had a great week of activities.”
