The Access to Work scheme has been extended to offer extra assistance in a number of areas.

This extension to the scheme means that disabled people can now benefit from financial support to work from home and people who are clinically extremely vulnerable can get new applications for grant funding fast-tracked.

Funding can now cover taxi fares and public transport costs if a health condition prevents a disabled person from travelling on public transport during the pandemic.

The Department of Work and Pensions have also produced a range of new resources encouraging employers to seriously consider the benefits of taking on people from a wide variety of backgrounds including, among others, the disabled, older workers and the homeless.

Guidance, case studies and information about how employers can attract, recruit and retain people from a diverse range of backgrounds is available at www.gov.uk

Meanwhile, new resources have been launched designed to help anyone who may have difficulties or concerns in maintaining a safe, social distance during the coronavirus pandemic.

The ‘Please give me space’ badge is being introduced for people to wear when they go out, to signal to others around them that they need to pay attention and give space to the wearer.

Wearing the badge is completely optional.
