A STUDENT stole £3,000 worth of rare whisky from the Banff store where he worked part-time - and drank it himself.

Robert Robinson (25), of 21 Crammond Terrace, Banff was caught red-handed with two bottles of whisky, valued at £340 and £250.

However, he did not benefit financially from his thefts, Banff Sheriff Court heard.

The court heard that Robinson had started stealing from Parkers Whisky and Gift shop in Low Street because he felt "hard done by over the way he had been treated by his employer", but he also had an alcohol problem.

Robinson pleaded guilty to stealing a quantity of alcohol on various occasions over an 18-month period until April this year, just prior to the shop, which specialised in valuable whiskies, closed as a result of falling sales.
