AFTER only one week of the 2011 Canvass, the Grampian Electoral Registration Office has reported a 100% increase in households making their returns by internet, phone or text.

Electoral registration officer Ian Milton said that more than 30,000 households responded by phone, text or via the internet.

He added: "With a quarter of a million canvass forms delivered to households in the Grampian area, it is vitally important that responses by electronic means are maximised.

This is helping to minimise costs to the public purse as there is a reduction in the volume of administrative handling involved with receiving and processing canvass forms returned by post."

If there are no changes to the electors in the household, a quick and convenient automated response service using phone, text or internet is available to householders.

Householders are urged to respond to the canvass form as soon as possible so that additional follow-up procedures such as reminders and home visits are not required.

Advice and practical assistance with making a response is available from the Electoral Registration Office and contact details are provided on the Canvass form.
