A REMARKABLE Gardenstown lady had a very special day to record in her diary last week - when she celebrated her 100th birthday.

Mrs Christina Margaret Kidd, who still lives on her own in Bracoden Terrace, has kept a diary meticulously all her life.

"We have joked that she should put them together as a book," said granddaughter Hilda Duthie, of Drybridge, Buckie.

"She will have most of the family history in them.

"Every day’s events and weather goes into the diary, and she also does a lot of reading.

"She really is unbelievable and seems so much younger than her age. She doesn’t take any medication and is always bright and cheerful.

"You couldn’t get a better person. She is very kind and a great listener, and she knows when something is not right with you. She is much loved by all the family."

Better known as Margaret, Mrs Kidd put her longevity down to her daily bowl of porridge. "It good food and a lot better than some of the stuff that’s eaten today."

Well wishers at her home included Banffshire Deputy Lord Lieutenant Patricia Segilman and Councillor John Duncan who presented flowers on behalf of Aberdeenshire Council, and there were messages of congratulations from the Queen and former Prime Minster Lady Thatcher.
