A PARADE that celebrated 30 years of fundraising in Portsoy for a cancer charity has been deemed a success by organisers.

‘The Dander in the Dark’ saw about 70 people take to the town’s streets in their pyjamas raising more than £1600 for Cancer Research UK.

The three mile walk was followed by a ‘candles of hope’ ceremony at Loch Soy.

Kate McRae, event organiser, said: "Between the walk and the ceremony we raised £1,637, which was great.

"People came in sleeping suits, pyjamas, night gowns and dressing gowns and entered into the spirit.

"Fortunately, the weather was dry and everyone really enjoyed themselves.

"We expect some more money to come in and are very grateful to everyone who took part and supported us."

Mrs McRae and husband George have run the Portsoy branch of Cancer Research UK since 1981.

Since then it has raised more than £230,000.

The branch’s next event will be soup and sweet events in the town to be held in the autumn.
