A NEW project will support unemployed Banffshire people who have an interest in pursuing a career in the early years and childcare sector.
The Childcare Academy has been launched by Aberdeenshire Council in partnership with One Parent Families Scotland and Job Centre Plus.
It will provide training for participants and paid placement opportunities, giving individuals a chance to gain the skills, confidence and qualifications required to make a successful career in this field.
Councillor Richard Stroud, chairman of the council’s education, learning and leisure committee, said: "It is hoped that this pilot project which includes nine participants from across Aberdeenshire will pave the way for many more similar opportunities like this for those wishing to return to work. It is a great step forward and I wish those about to embark on placement opportunities every success in the future."
The project is supported by Aberdeenshire Childcare Partnership, which sees the council working with the voluntary and private sectors to enhance childcare provision, and the childcare@home project which has been developed by One Parent Families Scotland. It is funded through Fairer Scotland and the council’s education learning and leisure service, via the Childcare Partnership and Working For Families.
Participants are about to embark on paid placement opportunities which will also allow them to undertake an SVQ Level 11 in Children’s Care Learning and Development, provided by Banff and Buchan College. The participants will also receive training in First Aid and food hygiene.
