IT IS a beautiful, small cemetery on the edge of possibly the most tranquil village in Banffshire.

However, for months now it has been the scene of upsetting incidents of vandalism.

Floral and other tributes around numerous graves at Fordyce Cemetery have been repeatedly disturbed or damaged.

Possibly the worst affected has been the graveside of a child Evelyn Wilson buried last November.

Within two weeks of the burial, flowers and tributes were displace or ripped up – and it happened again after Christmas and around Easter.

On one occasion, the eyes and nose of a teddy were ripped off. On another, an angel fixed onto the gravestone was torn off its mount.

Discovering the vandalism has been a harrowing experience for mother-of-seven Evelyn (38), of Fordyce, as she goes through the grieving process.

"I felt as if I was being targeted, though I couldn’t think why," she said.

"This is such a bonny cemetery, especially on a sunny day, and Fordyce must be the most peaceful village in Banffshire. How could anyone cause such damage in a graveyard? Do they not realise the upset they cause?

"I’m hoping that if more people are aware of what is going on, they will keep a closer eye on the place."

Anyone who has information in relation to vandalism at Fordyce Cemetery is urged to contact Grampian Police on 0845 600 5700, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 if they wish to remain anonymous.
