ABERDEENSHIRE Council officers worked with partner agencies through the night to monitor potential flooding in The Meadows area of Huntly.

Water levels on the River Deveron continued to be high and became close to critical during the early hours of the morning. The level of rainfall in the area has fluctuated significantly over the last few days, and it is recognised that in just a few short hours the level of caution demanded can quickly change.

The rainfall has now eased off and water levels are dropping steadily, it is hoped that this will continue.

A rest centre was opened at the Gordon Schools during the night for Huntly residents but was not needed.

A flood warning remains in place for the Kintore area and a road closure on the B977 is currently in place in the area.

Aberdeenshire Council Chief Executive Colin Mackenzie said: “I would like to pay tribute to the men and women who have been working all night monitoring the situation and ensuring that our residents were being kept informed about how it was progressing.

I would still urge residents to remain vigilant for the time being, as last night proved the situation can change very quickly.”“Once again our proactive approach and partnership working proved to be effective.
