David Duguid takes Banff and Buchan for Conservatives

DAVID Duguid is the new Member of Parliament for Banff and Buchan.

The Conservative swept to victory in the coastal seat with 19,976 votes.

That was enough to give him a 3693 majority over the SNP's Eilidh Whiteford, who polled 16,283.

The Conservative vote was up 19 per cent on the 2015 election, while Dr Whiteford's vote collapsed by 21 per cent.

Labour's Caitlin Stott was in third place with 3936 votes, while Liberal Democrat Galen Milne was a distant fourth with 1448 votes.

The turnout was 61.6 per cent.
