A BANFF hotelier has stressed that he is not opposed to plans to build 127 homes on the outskirts of the town.

"Contrary to a misleading headline in a national newspaper last week, I actually welcome the development," said businessman Des Cheyne, co-owner of the Banff Springs Hotel.

"I have simply raised concerns with Aberdeenshire Council’s planning department over aspects of the layout of the scheme. I want to ensure that it is wholly beneficial to the town, and particularly tourism."

Elgin-based Springfield Properties has secured a prime 18-acre green-field site off Golden Knowes Road, opposite the Banff Springs Hotel.

New residents in the proposed 93 houses and 34 flats would enjoy wonderful sea views over the Banff Links to Whitehills and beyond.
