THE weather may have been dreich but it certainly did not dampen Buckie Ladies enthusiasm as they treated Clach to a goalscoring masterclass.
Buckie were in front with little more than a quarter of an hour on the clock, Skye Milne executing a sublime finish into the bottom left corner after a clinical pass from Lori Lappin. Lorna Young doubled the hosts’ lead with a stunning free kick from 20 yards out.
Clach are never a team to be taken lightly and they showed why when Hannah Whillis netted from a breakaway meaning the teams went in 2-1 at half-time.
Any hopes of a revival from the visitors was dashed just minutes after the restart when Rebecca McMillan’s cross was turned into the net for goal number three by a Clach defender.
New signing Jess Moore made it six goals in three games with a quick-fire double.
There was a warm welcome back to action for long-term injury victim Emily McAuslan, who marked her return to the fray with a screamer of a strike. It served to only whet the appetite as she went on to claim her brace.
The Highlanders may have been on the ropes but Buckie’s thirst for goals was not quite quenched yet. Micki Munro’s through ball found Alena Gardiner who rounded off a superb 8-1 win for Buckie Ladies.
It was certainly a good afternoon at the office - albeit a cold and wet one - for Buckie boss Laura Duncan.
She said: “It was a really dominant display from us apart from a five to 10 minute spell before the break.
“Clach got a goal back and we looked quite shaky for a bit but we got our composure back in the second half and the quick goals calmed any nerves.
“Overall I’m really pleased with the display.
“The conditions didn’t really affect too much. It was very cold but the grass was wet and it made the ball slide along nicely, which suited us.
“It was great to see Emily back after such a long time out, it’s like having a new signing in the squad. I had her on the bench from the start and put her on for the last 20 minutes. She showed she’s back with a bang getting the goal and it will help her confidence, I’m really chuffed for her.
“I’m also very pleased to see this season that we’re scoring goals from across the team, we’re not just relying on one or two individuals to score.”
Buckie Ladies have a free week this coming Sunday before resuming their defence of the league title with a trip to Caithness the following Sunday.
